Fountain

Fountain

I don't really know where I'm going with this yet, or if it even has enough legs to go anywhere. I have a feeling it will all end in tears, but in the words of Jack Burton: "You never know 'till you try."

Earl Grey and Cream

Earl Grey and Cream

I can't decide whether this new idea I have is interesting or pretentious. I'm interested in looking at the "digital-ness" of digital photo processes. This particular approach, though, may be a little obvious or trite. Though I suppose that even if it is, there's no real reason not to give it a shot.

Whorl

Whorl

I've been feeling an urge to do something different lately. Well, this is different.

I'm actually very frustrated with this picture. For whatever reason, I can't get Lightroom to play nicely with it--it looks great in the Develop module but crappy in the Library module, and when I export it. In order to get it to look the way I wanted, I had to keep it in the Develop module and then take a screenshot, which looks OK on a screen but doesn't have enough resolution to print very large.

Ah well. So it goes.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

To make this image, I cut open a yellow peach and removed the pit, then cut off most of the back to make it thin enough for light to get through it. I used a Nikon SB-400 flash with a home-made (tupperware) diffuser, placed underneath the peach pointed toward the camera. I also did a fair amount of post-processing: crop, rotation, color, curves, and sharpening. Turned out pretty neat, if I do say so myself. Even better, it gave me more ideas for the future.

Flow

I got to work a little early Friday morning, so I decided to take the opportunity to experiment with abstract composition. This is a close-up of the outflow of a fountain in front of my office building.
