The fight, round 1, and hellos
Subject Updates
I want to pass along some info to you players.
First I want to welcome Nate Novack to the group. He will be playing the body you guys just found. I will be writing the last intro piece that I have for the character and then Nate will be taking him over. Welcome Nate.
Second, as you know Jake, who plays Surin, has decided that some personal business is more important than gaming, :) , so he is taking a short vacation to show the rest of us how small and hollow our lives are. ;) Taking control of his character will be Ryuko, also known as Abby. She is playing with Jake in anothe campaign and he thinks she will be able to take Surin over properly for the next few weeks. Twinky is out of town for a day or two so I will take charge of getting all the turns to her.
I will be writing up the next turn this morning.
Thanks

Subject Fight
Ran-Ell stands next to Salix as the druid examines the man on the ground. It is obvious to the druid that the man has run himself into unconciousness. Even when out of it, 20 minutes or more later, his breathing is ragged and troubled. This man would need hours, if not days of rest to recover. Salix asks for water to be brought, and Surin hustles back to the horses and returns with a waterskin. Salix splashes some water on the face of the man. He sputters a bit but does not wake.
Bel and Fal send their birds up the road to see what is there. The birds return fairly quickly and seem to not be bothered by anything. Bel takes a few minutes to look around for any other tracks and does not find anything, (DC?, 16+7=23) other than the mans tracks in the dust, coming from the west. For the next 10 minutes or so the party members seem fairly intent on Salix and the man on the ground. Even Harp, who was supposedly watching the west, fails to see (Spot check DC 10, 2+3=5, fail) the large group of orcs as they crest the small rise to the west. Seeing the party the orcs charge down the hill towards the group.
OODM: Ok guys there is a large party of orcs charging down the hill at you. They had a surprise round of action and they did a run move a closed from 300 feet to 180 feet. I will be using the following numbering convention during the combat, orc #1 will be O1, orc #2 will be O2. They are listed on the map attached. The map shows the orcs as about 60 feet away. That is where they will be next round. I could not fit the full distance on there and keep the scale nice. So for this round only, they are actually 180 feet away and not 60 feet. I would like it if everyone would specify what orc they are attacking so I can keep track of damage.
Initiative order: Harp, O2, O3, Ran, O9, O13, O1, Bel, Cai, O16, O4, O8, O10, O14, Surin, O12, O6, O7, Salix, O6, Fal, O11, O15

Subject Fight round 1
Harp, seeing his kind running toward him in anger, kneels down and begins to pray to Heironious, asking that his diety give morale strength to his companions (bless spell). When this is completed, if there is still time, he will take one shot with his cross bow at O1. If there is not time this turn, he will take the shot next turn.

Subject Fight, round 1
Knowing that their is some talent with bow and arrow within his group Ran decides that thinning out the enemy a little would give them better position in the coming battle. Ran draws his crossbow and calls out to his companions "We have time for one ranged attack before we are forced into a melee! Fire when ready!"
With that, Ran takes aim at one of the leading orcs (02) and waits for him to get within range.

Cai, who already had her arrow nocked, takes careful aim and lets it fly at orc 05. (Far Shot)
OOC: 05 doesn't seem to have a round this turn and 06 has two. Is that a mistake?

She is right, the O6 after Salix should be O5.
I have updated my sheet.

Subject Fight, round 1
Salix ministers to the fallen man as best he can considering the circumstances. He had hoped the man would be strong enough, at least to talk, if not to get on a horse and ride with them. But after a few moments, listening to the incoherent mumbling and finding himself unable to rouse the man even enough to take a drink, Salix decides they will have no choice but to camp somewhere nearby. He should be able to help the man more, at least to remove his exhaustion and fatigue, in the morning.
Suddenly the group around him tenses and Salix becomes aware of the sound of a large group running toward them from up ahead. He glances up and sees the Orc party rushing down on them. He moves to his feet, letting the fallen man down onto the road as gently as possible in his haste. He hears Ran's order for a ranged attack, but ignores it. He has a sling, true, but why inflict a flesh wound on a single Orc when he might be able to worry the whole lot of them at once.
While there was little vegetation on the road itself, the trees on either side of the road were quite tall and there was ample undergrowth in the wild forest all around them. It should be enough, he thinks to himself as he stands and once again looks to a spot just above the horizon and places his right hand over the symbol of the acorn and oak leaves embossed into his leather armor, over his heart. In the language of his people, he prays to Obad-Hai that he might grant Salix brief command over the trees and plants on either side of the road, that they may fold in and ensnare the advancing Orc party.(Entangle). He tries to center the spell about 10 feet in front of the leading Orc (O1?)
(OOC - The spell centered on the road would have a 80 ft effective length. Per your diagram, the Orc party covers about 25 feet of that. Centering the spell 10 feet in front would maximize the distance any Orcs not entangled in the first round would need to travel (and risk entanglement on subsequent rounds.) At least that's what Salix has in mind. )

OOC: Hey guys. Just wanted to say that I am paying attention, and mostly am just waiting till I'm not unconcious to start.

Subject Hello
OOC: Nate, I can't believe that you are going to let something as simple as being unconcious stop you from helping the team. I have 1/2 a mind (as I have been repeatedly told) to pick your body up and use it as a human shield.
Seriously though, welcome aboard, and I hope that we are able to rouse you in the morning (assuming we all live. Given the results of my past few spot rolls, I may be doomed).

Well, if we don't live, you're not going to be very popular with a certain druid! ;-)

OOC: I'm a 1/2 orc, I'm not popular with anybody. Could be that unusual orc body odor.
LOL.

Subject Fight, round 1
Surprised, Surin reflexively shoots off a dagger towards the group of Orcs. (O2) When he's recovered a little more, he lobs an axe at them, hitting the one closest. (O1) (If I can, that is)

Subject Fight, round 1
Actually he would know that only his sling has the range to reach the orcs and it is more likely he would spend this time trying to get into the forest so that he could hide and try and get a sneak attack.
If you want to resubmit you can.

Subject Fight, round 1
OOC: Oh... I see... Sorry, I didn't realize that they were that far away... I'll try harder.
IC: Surin saw the Orcs and gritted his teeth. There was no way he was facing one of those hulking brutes head-on. (And he mentally apologized to Harp...) Without skipping a beat, he made his way towards the treeline, hoping that they wouldn't see him. (Can one hide while moving...? if so, then I use Hide.)
