Plan for entering

Allistair motions everyone down the hallway to a safe distance where they can talk normally. "No need to panic this time, as this door definately looks like it will be like the majority of the ones we have previously faced. Has anyone here ever heard of Salamaners? That is what we face behind this last door."

"They are native to the elemental plane of fire, in much the same way that the Xorn were from the plane of earth. Unfortunately the similarity ends there. They are very adept at using the spears that you saw, and with their bodies aflame anything they touch you will will burn. Also you saw their snake-like tails? They will snatch you up with that and squeeze you like a giant constrictor. Mund might be able to grapple with them, if it weren't for the fact that they are on fire..."

"Also these creatures are generally of an evil nature, and I doubt we will get a friendly or peaceful response from them like the Xorn. Maybe we could try to cower them from a position of power, but that didn't work so well with the Manticores, or anything else we've encountered either."

"My suggestion would be to keep them at a distance as much as possible, like we did with the Hill Giant. Even if they are immune to my fireballs, there is still a lot that Kal, Salix, and myself can throw at them."

"Any chance at getting the Xorn to help us fight them?"

"The Zornies took off as soon as they could. I think they escaped this damned prison."

"I say we hit them hard and hit them fast. As the fighters charge, Salix can bring us some more manticores. The manticores should be much more effective when they have us as allies. Alley and Kal can hit them with those mage arrow things."

I think Mund means Hippogriffs.

" Mund, I agree. We need to surround them and take them out quickly. But we want to be cautious on using the grace and spells we have - we don't know how many doors are left after this one.

OK, here is the plan. Ran, you and Mund take one of them, Ragnar and I will take the other one. Salix, will you summon some hippogriffs on the other side of those things so we have some support from the other side. Kal, you jump in where you see the best opportunity - whether it is with spells or with your sword. Allistair, I think it is pretty obvious what you will be doing. Surin, stay to the side and look for an opportunity to get a blow in.

Allistair, is there anything else you can tell us about these things? Do they fight well together, can the cast spells, do they breath fire? Anything else that we really need to know about?"

"When we fought the demon doggies, we got all magicked up so that the fire wouldn't hurt us as bad. Do we wanna do that again?"

From: Karl

That's what I thought. Salix will follow Harp's lead on this one, as usual.

Allistar nods in aggreement with Mund. "That would be very prudent if we are going to be closing in for physical combat, since them simply touching you with their snake coils or weapons will also burn you. I don't know if that's such a great idea to close with them, but if we want to hit them hard and fast I don't see any other way to do it. If you're going to be physically attacking them, watch out for their tails. They look to be 10 feet long and could grab you even if you can't hit them."

"What if the next room has something even worse than these Sally-Meaners? Maybe it will be giant Sally-Meaners with giant spears. We don't want to rely on magic spells fer everything, or why bother even having anybody but the magickers?"
