Turn, who carrys who, back in the guardroom

From: Mark

Subject: Turn

It will very likely be tonight before I get anything out. The lady I share my job with is out sick today and I am swampped anyway.

However, as far as I understand Salilx is going to stone shape around the door so that it will not open and Ally is going to web the door area. Then the party is going to high tail it out of the room through the door in the east wall.

Just, I think Ally is going to hold the web for backup incase they get through the door quickly. If we can vacate the guard room and get back out a ways, the web spell might be more useful as a secondary obstacle later. (Of course, I could be wrong.)

No, you've got it right. Salix hasn't announced what he's doing, so Alistair doesn't know, so he's got Web ready. But hopefully since he has it as a readied action, he'll be able to use it quickly if they make it through the door.

Needless to say, Allistair will not cast the spell right now if there's no need for it.

Once relieved of door holding duty, Harp will offer to carry Acer. If someone else ends up carrying him, Harp will offer to lead the way out.

Did you not get my post from yesterday? Mund is already carrying him.

I know. Harp also knows that right now, at least, he is stronger than anyone else in the party. Even without Bulls strength, he is still stronger, and would offer to help as needed. Mark hasn't written up the turn, so I thought I would give him some color to work with.

OOC: Gotcha. Carry on then.

I am going to have to check but there are consequences to carrying someone.

First, unless he is raging, Mund will probably be encumbered. I am also going to put a -4 on his attack rolls, unless he puts Acer down. Acer will give him 20% cover, but that means Acer may also be hit by attacks and his AC is lousy at the moment.

From: Porter

Is that -4 because of the encumberance which you calculated, or something you're stacking on top of the encumberance?

From: Mark

On top of the encumberence. Trying to fight while carrying someone over your shoulder should really affect your fighting skill.

Encumberence does not really affect your attack bonus, only your speed and your DEX bonus. If you are at heavy load your max dex bonus is +1 and Mund's speed drops to 30. He also has a -6 armor penalty.

I made a comment that Acer seemed light to Salix, but that was only an emotional response to the man's condition. He still weighs in at around 150lbs. That by itself puts Mund alomst at the high end of medium load and with his gear almost for sure into heavy load.

Silly me for thinking that encumberance would be handled by the rules for encumberance. ;)

DM dances away like a bladesinger, becuase Porter is encumbered with his brothers character.

*spins* *hops* *dances*

Not that there's any thing wrong with that. :)

Salix takes in the situation quickly. Harp was trying to keep the door closed but was slowly loosing ground. Acer would need to be carried for a while longer. There was an unknown number of bad guys on the other side of the door. Time to leave. Mund helps him make his decision "Salix," Mund asks, "can you help your friend move out of here at a decent pace, or do I need to carry him? We need to get out of here now." Mund stands by their exit, willing the group to hurry up and get ready to go. Salix nods "He is blind and weak right now. With another good healing he could probably walk on his own, but will need guidance. It might be faster if you carry him."

The barbarian nods as Salix hands the frail form over to him. Mund slings his shield over his back and hauls the old man over his left shoulder as gently as he can. He tests the balance and then picks up his ax. "Ran and Kal, lead the way for Mund. Ragnar stay next to Mund. If there is a fight, you take Acer and let Mund fight." As the three move to follow Salix's orders the druid steps up next to Harp. "We've got to leave. Let me take care of this." He touches the symbol of holly and oak leaves on his armor and chants the prayer of shaping stone. He then lays his hands on the stone surrounding the door and makes it flow to the other side of the door. He mentally pictures a door opening a foot or more smaller than the door.

Although he can not see it, he senses the stone flow at his command. The power of Obad Hai flows through him as the very building blocks of the earth reshape themselves. Through the door Salix and Harp can hear surprised shouts. Harp lets go of the door and for a few seconds the pulling continues. Then it stops and a voice can be heard through the door "Chop it down". Harp turns to Salix "That's the sign. Let's move." Salix nods let's go. You bring up the rear." Harp nods and follows Salix through the room and into the temple area. Behind them they hear the sound of wood being chopped and smashed.

Back in the hallway Surin follows the man in plate into the first guard room. The man is not moving fast and the halfling is able to keep in the shadows. His feet are like whispers. He watches as the man goes to the door in the west wall and locks it just like he did the door to the rail line tunnel. Damn. He was trying to lock them in. Hiding under the table Surin watches the man go to the door on the south wall and lock that one as well. The man then returns to the door in the west wall, pulls his sword and readies himself.

OODM: I need actions

Harp prepares to hold the door he is standing at closed, similar to what he had just been doing.

"Come on, let's go people."

Surin hides in the shadows as he thinks "The moment he opens that door, he'll surprise the others. I've got to warn them." With that thought, he pulls an axe from his belt, and, as the door starts to swing open, he attacks the man with the keys and yells a warning to the others.

OOC: Surin'll wait 'till the guy is busy opening the door, then he'll attack directly from behind. Provided he gets a decent init role, he'll attack then feint, so as to get another surprise attack the next round.

I assume that yelling after attacking won't screw up any sneak attack bonuses?
