Cadfael in Trouble!

So. . . you're going to go ahead and cast Detect Evil?

Subject: Crashing the party; sneaking and peeking
After a brief discussion, Cadfael decides to go ahead and try his luck with a detect evil spell. There is little chance of him moving around in the dark with any degree of stealth, so he moves as far back into the forest as he can, while still keeping the tower in sight, then beings to circle it, trying to get out of view of the front door. After a few minutes of crunching through the brush, he can no longer see the firelight though the doorway, though some small amount of light comes through cracks in the tower itself.
In this dark location, Cadfael steps out of the forest into the clearing, and moves about fifteen feet closer to the tower, trying to walk as quietly as possible. He casts a detect evil orison, and begins concentrating on the tower. There is a tingle of evil there, nothing like the blast of evil Anileth gave off, but a tingle none the less. He begins concentrating, hoping to gather more information. Whatever the cause, he never hears a thing before there is a sharp pain in his neck, and his limbs instantly deaden. He tries to yell out, but his mouth no longer moves at his command. He begins to fall over when a pair of arms catches him, and lowers him almost gently to the ground. He sees a dark shape move off toward the tower. [Move silently 21; Listen 1; Fort Save versus paralysis 9; Paralyzed]
The party sees and hears nothing. And sits waiting Cadfael's return.
