OOC: Another character who doesn't understand sarcasm? Cale and Sa'id should get together, form a Sincerity Club.

Mission stares blankly at Rennick's disappearing back.

This was not what he had planned on happening at all.

And yet, as surely as he knew that he must defend the thief from Rennick's anger, he knows that now would not be the best of times to go charging after the halfling in an attempt to repair the breach between them. Mission lets him go, hopefully, to calm himself.

Cadfael had been saying something. . . Mission turns to look at him, but can't recall exactly what he'd been preaching on about. Painful pasts, or some such. The price of redemption. Mission offers him a brief, bitter smile.

He turns to the men they'd beaten. "My name is Mission." He swallows, and out of the corner of his eyes, sees Farron and Sa'id looting the dead mage. Not looting, he tells himself. Searching. Not looting. He looks away, but not before seeing the glee in Farron's eyes at finding some bauble in the mage's cloak. Sand take him.

"I understand that we have done nothing to earn your trust." He swallows, and steels himself. "But right now, I'm less interested in your trust than in your information. We seek a foul, Pathless god in this jungle, a god of death and blackness. Do you know anything of this god?"

He will watch all three men carefully for any sign of recognition.
