Pensive frowns at the arrival of the halfling. He'll mention to Garyth that if Bartok got through the watches, so might their enemies. If they're going to be spending a few days here, they might as well make themselves secure.

Garyth's smile fades at Bartok's news. Another comrade fallen. This would be the way of things if they did not succeed. Little by little, all resistance would fail before the demon until there was nothing left in the world but ruin.
"We are glad to have your help, Ath'tenn," he says, using the title he'd heard Rennik use. "Gaining another sword against the demon is a blessing and I should be happier to accept it, but your news is grave. Reth'tenn Melani was a good friend. What's more, she had been travelling ahead of a large group of my people seeking shelter in Kalama lands. Melani intended to ask your chieftain to aid them, but it seems she never made it. Tell me, have they yet arrived? Has your chieftain given them his protection?"

The halfling nods gravely. "Yes, your people made it to our forest. The spirits know how we will feed them all, but the Belneth said that it must be done. Your people are safe, or at least as safe as any one can be in this time. Now, who are your friends here? The Chordath I recognize, but the others I do not know."
