Garyth gasps for breath--that gut shot had really knocked the wind out of him. Almost without thinking, he finds himself stepping back into a defensive guard stance. Rennik's small stature combined with the axe's wide head were proving an effective defense. If Rennik wouldn't give him an opening on his own, Garyth would just have to trick him into doing so.
