Surin Goes In/Maps

From: Mark

Subject Surin Goes in

The party eats a quite dinner of cold food. They don't risk a fire this close to the goblin camp. Surin is uncharacteristically quiet. His normal playful self seems to have been replaced with someone else. Salix wanders over to where Surin is sitting by himself, sits down and ask ?Do you want to talk about it?? Surin glances up at the ? elf and decides to let his friend know what is on his mind.

?You know, I have never been in a life or death situation before. If I screw up in there, it will probably not be just my life that is forfeit, but Rochell's and maybe yours. I know I can do this. When the circus visited some of the larger towns I would practice following some mark through the town, making sure that he did not know he was being followed. I never got caught.?

?But this is different. I know in my head that I can do this. I have looked into the camp and there are plenty of places to hide, lots of shadows, lots of things to hide under or behind. But my heart is not so sure. What if I mess up? I can probably handle a few goblins but not 30 or more. And that brute that was leading them, he would take me apart in about 10 seconds, if that long. I tell you Salix, I am worried.?

In all the weeks that he has been traveling with Surin, Salix has never heard the halfling ever express any type of concern. ?Looking at his friend he says ?Don't take too much on your shoulders. You don't have to get her out yourself. Just find out where she is and how easy it would be to go in and get her. Just remember that the rest of us are out here and we will do whatever we can to help. In fact I will have Noctis take a place up in the trees and try and keep an eye out for you. If he sees you having any problems he will come tell me. At that point I am sure the Harp and Alatyr would love to do a frontal assault and that would probably distract them.? Salix smiles as he says this last statement.

About four hours after dark, when it is close to mid night, Surin stands up and tells Ran that he is ready to go. All the party members shake the little halfling's hand and wish him luck. Surin checks his gear one last time, making sure that everything is tied down and that nothing will make any noise or reflect any light. He slips into the woods.

Surin follows the same path as last time, towards the back of the encampment. Taking his time to make sure that he is quite, he slowly works his way to a spot midpoint between the two back watchtowers.(OODM:Surin is moving at half speed, 10feet, and taking 10 with both his Move Silent skill and his Hide. That gives him a Move Silent score of 23 and a Hide score of 26.) Looking up the rough trees, Surin makes a quick climb to the top of the tree trunk that makes up the wall.(Climb DC15 , 15+2=17, success. Makes it up the first 5 feet. Climb DC15, 15+2=17, success, makes it to the top.

As he sits at the top of the palisade,he takes a quick look around and sees that no one is looking his way. The ground is clear beneath him and he starts to work his way down the tree.(DC15, 14+2=16, success, down 5 feet). When he is half way down he looks and sees that one of the guards is starting to turn his way and he lets go and does a short drop to the ground behind one of the tents. He takes a second to catch his breath. The hardest part was over. A few minutes later Surin is back to work.

Figuring that the shack in the middle would be the likely place for the goblins to keep valuable captives, Surin slowly works his way over there. Sometimes crawling, sometimes dashing between shadows when no one was looking, sometimes hiding under a dirty blanket when goblins walked by, Surin is able to get to the shack. He thanks his gods that there is a small crawl space under the building, raising it about 6? off the ground. It might be a tight fit but he should be able to make it.

Surin figures that he has been in the camp for about an hour when he makes his move to get under the shack. He makes his move and slides under the building. He has to be careful not to let his armor scrape on the bottom of the building. He scoots under the building and starts to listen and look around. From his recon earlier, he knew that the door to the shack faced north, so he headed toward the north end of the building. As he gets there he notices a small piece of wood missing from the floor. Moving himself around he is able to get a view into the building.

The shack looks like it is divided into three rooms. There is a wall 10 feet from the front wall with 2 doors in it. The front room is 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep. Surin guesses that the back to room are 10' X 10'. Surin can see the ? orc over to one side, eating a leg of something. It looks cooked. ?Bastard has horrible table manners ?Surin thinks. At that moment Surin hears a commotion coming from the front gate. The ? orc yells out to someone in common,?Find out what the problem is.? Surin hears the patter of feet above him and a door slamming. A few minutes later he hears the stomp of some fairly heavy foot steps.

Surin twists a little bit and sees two men standing there. One has a shield with a picture of a hand holding a bunch of arrows. The taller says ?My Master got your message. You have the girl?? With a grunt the ? orc goes to one of the rooms and brings out a young woman. She is blindfolded and fairly disheveled, but otherwise seems to be unhurt. The first man smiles and says ?We will take her to the Master and he will come by in a few days with your payment.? He motions for the other man to get the girl. The second man moves towards her but the ? orc moves first. With blinding speed he grabs his axe that was laying against the back wall and swings at the second man. The second man's head is separated from his body, and it rolls over to a corner as the body falls lifeless on the floor..

?Dargrak is no fool. Agreement was gold for girl. You tell your boss that when he shows up with my gold, he will get his girl. No one else and not before.? With that he licks some of the blood off the axe blade. The first man looks in stunned silence. Finally he is able to talk. ?You will regret that. I will inform my Master. I will leave tonight and you can expect him in two days.? With that Dargrak grunts and pushes the girl back into her room. The man quickly leaves and Dargrak bellows for the goblins to get the body out of his house. He then sits back down to finish his meal.

OODM: Jake do you want to do anything else while you are under the building?

Subject Maps

I forgot to attach the map of the encampment.

The round red things are cooking fires. The square red thing in the middle is the shack.

I have also included a map of the general area around the encampment.

From: Jake

Subject Surin Goes in

How well constructed is this floor? If it looks like Surin could enlarge the hole quietly enough to not attract anyone's attention, I might wait until the room is clear and try popping up for a better look around, and maybe a rescue while I'm at it.

Also, what supplies does Surin have on his person? Can I assume that if it's listed in the equipment section of his character sheet (as opposed to his "on mount" section) he's got it?

A rescue? and back at the camp

From: Mark

Subject Flooring

The floor is not well built at all. There was a lot of squeaking and noises made when the men were in the room. The hole was only about 5-6" across, but it was located in a place where he had a good view of the room. He might be able to pry up a board or two, but it would likely make alot of noise.

He has everything on his list that he would obviously take. He might take a little water and a little food, but that is unlikely.

From: Jake

Subject Rescue?

Much as Surin would love to attempt a rescue, he decides that enlarging the hole would make too much noise to have much chance of going undetected. As quietly as possible he makes his way out from under the building, sneaks back through the camp, and scales the wall, intending to return to the party and relate what he saw and heard. It would seem that they have a little time, but that it is likely that in a few days time whoever hired the goblins to capture Rochelle will be here to pick her up, and will probably come intending to take her rather than pay for her, given the half orc's actions.

From: Kevin

Subject Rescue?

OOC: My compliments on your decision. Tempting as it must have been to try it, I doubt that Rochelle is going to be in any condition to sneak out.

Oh well, looks like we get to bust the doors down :-).

Actually, I still think sneaking in the back (but maybe without the Hippogriff) will be the way to go. We have Salix open a hole for us, we make a mad dash for the hut, take out the 1/2 orc, and then boogey our way out the back. 30-40 goblins do not worry me much - remember, 15 guardsmen took out 75-100 of them when they ambushed Rochelles caravan. We will have surprise on our side, and we do not have to kill them all, just get in, kill the 1/2 orc (can I, can I, please), and then get our of dodge. They goblins will not be much problem without the big guy leading them. Of course, he might be a challenge.

Well done.

Subject Meanwhile, back at the camp

As the party waits for Surin to return, the try and keep alert. They are really too far to hear much from the encampment. They set loose perimeter and hobble the horses a little distance away. Occasionally one of the birds swoops down and makes a quick sound and heads back out. The full moon glints through the trees, casting shadows everywhere. Only Alatyr is bothered by the dark. Harp is not bothered at all by the dark. The four fighter types take up positions around the camp, while Fal and Salix settle down in the middle of the clearing where they have made this temporary camp. Ran makes the rounds of the people on watch, making sure that they are alert.

Surin has been gone about an hour. No one is really worried yet since he had told them it would likely take 3-4 hours to get the job done right. Cai is propped up against a tree and keeping an eye out to the west. As Ran approaches, she perks up, not turning to look at him. As he approaches her he thinks he sees something move in the bushes about 40 yards out. He whispers to her ?Did you see that??(Spot roll, DC21, 19+4=23, success) She nods(Spot roll, DC21, 19+10=29, success) and slowly slips her bow from her shoulder as Ran quietly draws his sword. Whatever it is, the thing is very big. Just then the moon glints off Ran's sword and the creature a large wolf like creature standing 10 feet tall, gives a loud roar and rushes the party.

OODM:Right now only Cai and Ran know something is out there. What do you two want to do?

I have attached a map of the clearing and everyones postion. The creature is about 120 feet to the west.

Subject Surin goes walkabout, Noctis saves his bacon

Figuring that all the excitement is over, Surin starts working his way back to where he had crawled under the shack. Knowing that it is better to take his time then to get caught, he moves with deliberate slowness. He works his way back to the corner of the shack where Rochelle is being kept. He sees another hole in the floor and briefly thinks about trying to get Rochelle's attention, letting her know that she has help on the outside, but figures that there is too much chance of Dargrak hearing her if she makes too much noise.

Slipping out from under the shack, Surin inspects the walls of the part of the building where Rochelle is being kept. It looks like each board is being held in place by just a couple of nails. The boards are about 18? across and about 10' high. Surin then uses the shadows created by all the cook fires to work his way to the front gate. There are two small watch towers on each side of the gate, each one with a goblin in it. The gate itself is only kept closed with a sliding log set about 2 feet off the ground. The guards do not seem to be paying a whole lot of attention to the inside of the encampment, only to the outside.

Having seen enough, Surin heads back to where he came in. Cursing that he did not bring any rope, he looks around the camp until he finds a small section of rope. He makes a quick noose out of it and heads over to the section of wall where he came in. Looking around for anyone who might be coming his way, he makes a quick toss of the rope over the top of the palisade. The rope catches and Surin starts to scurry up the side of the wall.(Climb DC15,14+4=18,success, 7+4=11, fail) Half way up his foot slips and he almost falls. He catches himself and looks around to see if anyone heard him. Not seeing anyone looking his way he makes his way up to the top of the wall.(Climb DC15, 15+4=19, success) He releases the rope and unties it and lets it fall back into the camp.

Now all he has to do is get down. He starts to lower himself down the face of the palisade when his fingers slip on the moss growing on the tree trunks.(Climb DC15, 8+2=10, fail by 5 or more, falls) As he falls, Surin remembers what he learned in the circus and twists himself to help break his fall.(Tumble check, DC15, 8+12=20, success, no damage.) Knowing that his tumble caused some noise, Surin tries to fade against the wall of the encampment. He hears the goblin in the nearest tower yell something to the goblin in the tower on the other side of him.(Spot check, DC15, 2-3, fail, 8-3=5 fail) For a few seconds the two goblins exchange shouts and the halfling is sure that he has been caught, when he hears a noise from a few yards away. It is the hooting of an owl in the trees.

The first goblin makes a guttural laugh and Surin hears a bow hum. A large shadowy form takes wing from the trees and flys off into the night. Surin sighs in relief, thankful for Noctis watching over him. Taking a few more minutes to make sure that the goblin guards have gone back to their usual routine, Surin makes his way back to camp. From the position of the moon, he figures it has been at least 4 hours since he left camp. If he moves right along, he should be able to get back with in the hour. He thinks to himself, ?Boy do I have a lot to tell everyone.?

OODM: Jake let me know if you want to do anything else on the way back.

Deciding what to do at the camp

From: Rob

Subject The camp

Mark, if it made a large roar when attacking, how is it that we don't hear anything?

Bel, once he is aware of the problem, will rise and grab his bow, and then once he has a clear shot he will fire two arrows (rapid shot) at it.

From: Mark

Subject Camp

Smartass. :) The creature did start out 120 feet away from Ran and Cai, and Bel is further than that in a large clearing where he is intently keeping an eye out on his own watch area. Ran is letting the group know that this is not just some random noise.

From: Rob

Subject The camp

I had actually written and sent that one before I read the rest of the messages, before I knew Ran shouted.

You DID say we might not know yet, even though you had written that it gave a shout....:D

I am up and ready, so I fire two arrows at it asap.

Also, am I in armor? I would think so this close to the encampment, but I am not sure as I just woke up.

From: Mark

Subject The camp

From what I had thought no one was sleeping while Surin was out scouting the goblin camp so that if Noctis showed up the party could make a quick run for the camp and try and save him. I had every one up and alert at the camp.

I have heard from most every one.

As some of you know we have not heard from either Ami or Nate. I have sent them an e-mail asking them if they still want to play and have not heard back from them. I have given them until the end of the week to get back to me.

Since it is looking like they are going to drop I have taken steps to get some new players. Early next week or so they should start playing. They are already on the mailing list and are reviewing the archives so that they will have an idea of what has gone before.

The two new players are Josh and Jason. Welcome, even if it is a bit premature.

I will try and get the first turn of the fight out tonight.

Subject Round 1

Initiative(Ran 13, Cai 13, Creature 13)

With a howl at Ran's warning the beast knows that it has lost the surprise it had hoped for. The creature hurls itself towards the party. The size of the ogres that they had fought several days ago it is easily 9 feet tall, and looks a bit like a wolf, but not a wolf. Cai takes aim and releases two quick arrows (AC17, 13+5=18, hit, Damage 1, 12+5=17, hit, Damage 0) The first creases the side of the creature and the second seems like it should have hit but does no damage.

As the creature continues to run at Cai and Ran it gathers itself and right when it reaches them it launches itself over them. It easily clears them. As the beast is passing over them Ran takes a swing.(AC17,17+6=23, hit, Damage 1) His sword connects but seems to almost bounce off the creatures hide doing almost no damage.

The creature passes over the two and lands 20 feet behind them, and only 25 feet in front of Salix and Fal.

OODM: I have updated the map to show the position of the creature. Let me know what you are going to do. Initiative for the next round are as follows:

Bel 23, Fal 16, Harp 17, Cai 13, Ran 13, Creature 13, Salix 12, Alatyr 11

From: Rob

Subject Round 1

Bel, noticing that the arrows don't seem to do much damage to the beast, will cast Shield on himself, and prepare to use his spells to damage the creature.

Fight round 2

From: Kevin

Subject Fight round 2

Harp, hearing the roar and sound of the creature behind him (and not having seen anything else coming from the forest around him, turns and sees the huge creature. Again, used to being the largest person around, he is amazed at the size of the thing. He notices the creature is dangerously close to Salix and Fal, so he runs north, trying to place himself between the creature and his two companions. As he runs, he prays to the Battle Father to infuse his companions with his lords glory and strength. (OOC: Mark, I want to place Harp just east of the creature, but just out of hreatened square range if possible. Harp will cast a Bless spell once he is closer to the center of the clearing. If I cannot get to a location that will place me between it and Salix and Fal, then I will take a spot that will create the AOO - I want to be between it and them and I want to be able to flank the creature with relation to Ran and Cai.

I do not care if I get an attack in this turn, I want to get between it and them and I want toget the bless spell off. I am thinking the square three spots to the east of the creature (15 feet). Make sense?).

From: Mark

I made a mistake in the list last night.

The numbers are correct but for some reason I listed Fal with a 16 before Harp with a 17.

It should read Harp 17, Fal 16.

From: Randy

Ran, despite the fact that his sword doesn't seem to be too effective here, will charge the creature hoping to keep up a level of distraction so the spellcasters will have an opportunity to act.

From:Derrell

Subject Fight round 2

Fal will cast his Sleep spell.

From: Rob

Subject Fight round 2

Fal, are you casting sleep or magic missle? I don't think you got a trun last round, so I think MM would come first...unless you changes your mind....

From: Jason

Subject Fight round 2

Cai starts in disbelief as her arrows hit the mark, yet seem to have no affect on the creature. Shaking off her bewilderment, she drops her bow gently to the ground. She'd heard stories about creatures like this, but never in all her travels had she seen a foe so blatantly disregard for her arrows. Drawing her longsword, she hopes to do more damage while slashing at the creatures flanks with both hands, and maybe even draw its attention away from Salix and Fal.

OOC: Cai drops her bow, and will use wield longsword with two hands to attack from the side opposite Harp (assuming his move goes as planned).

For all of you who have been here awhile, looking forward to adventuring with you! Our DM has graciously allowed me to take over for the previous Cai. I've read through most of the posts, at least enough to get the storyline, looks interesting.

From: Mark

Subject Fight round 2

Initiative for the next round are as follows:Bel 23, Harp 17, Fal 16 Cai 13, Ran 13, Creature 13, Salix 12, Alatyr 11

In the moonlight Bel sees Ran connect with his sword but do almost nothing to the creature. Deciding that magic may be of more use in this fight Bel drops his bow. Focusing his mind, he chants the incantation he uses to create his mystic shield. A few seconds later a shimmering wall of force appears at his side.(Casts shield, Spell failure roll 31, spell works, AC +4)

Harp turns at the noise behind him and sees the huge creature leap over Ran and Cai and land just in front of the two least protected people in the party. ?Damn,? he thinks to himself. It was his job to protect those weaker than himself. Remembering the reach of the ogres Harp moves himself to a place between where the creature is standing and Salix and Fal. Once there he starts chanting a prayer to his god, asking for a blessing on the party during the coming fight.(Cast Bless on party)

Fal looks up and realizes that there is a 9 foot tall beast in front of it. The thing looks like a cross between a deformed bear and a weird sort of wolf. Deciding that a few more feet between him and the creature would be prudent he backs up and to the side several feet. When he gets there he recites the spell he has memorized and two bright bolts of energy leap from his finger tips and strike the creature in the chest.(Magic Missile, Damage 2)

Ran also sees that there is no one between the creature and the wizard and druid. Knowing that he is better protected and better equipped to deal with whatever this creature is, he charges into the back of the thing. As he charges the creature whips around with one claw(AOO, AC18, 11+14=25, hit, Damage, 14.) The claw scrapes its way down the front of Ran armor, gouging a long furrow in the chain links. Even through the armor Ran can feel the pain of the razor sharp claw. Ran is then next to the beast and takes a swing at the hamstring on one of its legs.(AC17, 17+9=26, hit,Damage 1) Again he feels his sword hit home but do almost no damage.

Cai sees Ran charging the beast and figures that people will be too close for bow work, so she drops her bow and draws her sword as she also charges. As she closes and swings at the beasts with both hands on her sword. It dances out of the way and her swing goes wide..(AC17, 4+10=14, miss).

The beast, fully facing the two opponents behind it, takes a swipe at both Ran and Cai, (AC 18, 1+14=15, miss, AC 17, 6+14,hit, Damage 10) and then takes a bite at Cai.(AC17,8+4=12 miss). Its claws rake across the her chest, knocking the breath from her.

Salix also starts to back away from the beast. He is fascinated by the creature. With a start, he glances at the sky to confirm his suspicions. (Knowledge Check, nature, DC15, 11+7=18, success.) He shouts to the group ?It is a werewolf of some sort. Only silver weapons do full damage.?

Alatyr, not wanting to miss the fight, runs at full speed to close with the creature. Threading his way between Fal and Salix he is just able to get next to the beast so as to be in position to attack.

OODM: OK I need actions for round 3. So far it is WW 25 and party 5. Map attached with positions.

From: Kevin

Subject Fight round 3

Harp sees Cai and Ran get sliced by the creatures claws. Hearing Salix's shout, he is unsure what a werewolf is, having only heard of them in passing during his training. Damn, he says to himself, I should have paid better attention to my studies. Upon hearing that only silver weapons wil do full damage, he decides that since he has no silver weapons, he might as well try to do what damage he can. He takes a full swing at the werewolf with his longsword, hoping that the fact that the creature has its back turned to him and is facing Cai and Ran will distract it enough that Harp will be able to get in a good blow (flanked opponent). Harp moves in closer to the beast and swings away.

From: Jason

Subject Fight round 3

Cai is nearly beside herself with frustration and pain; she has failed to significantly damage her opponent, and has been wounded herself. Worse, now that Salix has identified its weakness, she is still unable exploit that knowledge because she is not sufficiently prepared. Gritting her teeth against the pain in her chest, she pays more attention to her task at hand, and swings at the werewolf with all her strength. (Attacking with longsword two handed again, flanking him with Harp if that's reasonable from where she is.)

Round 3 planning

From: Derrell

Subject Fight round 3

If it's possible, Fal will cast Magic Missile again, if not he'll grab his cross bow and fire at the creature.

From: Rob

Subject Fight round 3

Bel yells " Move back, I need room for this spell!", and then casts Burning Hands at the creature, trying not to hit any party members.

If that isn't possible he will cast another shield spell on Fal, if he in range, or Ran or Harp, whoever is closer to him.

From: Jason

Subject Fight round 3

Hearing Fal's warning, Cai takes a step away from the werewolf.

ooc: I'd like to modify my turn, taking a 5 foot step back, away from the wolf and somewhat towards Ran, even if I'm not in the way of Fal's spell.

Fight round 3, Ran has stomach problems, Alatyr strikes back

From: Mark

Subject Fight round 3

That was Bel who is to the north of every one else. Fal is to the east and several (20-35) feet away from the creature.

Cai is right next to Ran. It is on the map I attached.

From: Kevin

Subject Fight round 3

OOC:So, Ran and Cai are on the West side of the beast, Harp and Alatyr are on the east side (all right up against it), Bel is to the north about 30' or so, but unobstructed to the beast, Salix and Fal are further east from Harp and Alatyr, at this point some what protected from it directly (at least until it tries to jump over us.

Bel, come on in and throw your burning hands. Welcome to the party.

From: Mark

Subject Fight round 3

Just a couple of comments.

Any one who does more than a 5 foot step or a withdrawl move opens themselves up to an AOO.

The shield spell is a personal spell for the spell caster only and can not be cast on someone else.

The burning hands spell only has a 15 foot range so I think Bel will have to close a bit to have it be usefull.

From: Kevin

Subject Fight round 3

OOC:It is also a cone shaped range attack. I should have read the spell before I suggested Bel come on in with it. Rob, I apologize for typing before reading. Do what you think best.

Mark, if Rob does the burning hands, Harp will still close with the creature as per my previous instructions. If I take some fire damage, so be it. I live for the hot stuff.

From: Mark

Subject Fight round 3

Well I will have to look up the shape of the cone. Cai and Alatyr are on the same side as Bel so they would be first. Also, if he moves any closer than 15 feet he provokes an AOO by casting a spell in a threatened square. Remember a creature this size has a 10 foot reach.

On the good side, however, becuase of its size it is very likely the the spell will only hit it.

From: Mark

Subject Cones

I just checked the open source and here is what it says about cone shaped spells.

Cone, Cylinder, Line, or Sphere: Most spells that affect an area have a particular shape, such as a cone, cylinder, line, or sphere.

A cone-shaped spell shoots away from you in a quarter-circle in the direction you designate. It starts from any corner of your square and widens out as it goes. Most cones are either bursts or emanations (see above), and thus won't go around corners.

Ok so the way I read this is that if the max range is 15' then the cone is 15 feet long right in front of the caster. I take this to mean that the edges of the spell sweep back 45 degrees on each side, but still 15 feet away from the caster. So in this case, Bel should be able to engulf the creature but not touch Cai or Alatyr.

From: Karl

Subject Fight round 3

Salix will cast produce flame and throw the first flare at the werewolf.

From: Mark

Subject Fight round 3

Initiatives for the next round are as follows: Bel 23, Harp 17, Fal 16 Cai 13, Ran 13, Creature 13, Salix 12, Alatyr 11

Bel, seeing that their weapons are having little effect, decides to try magic. Knowing what spells he had, he decides on one. Moving closer so as to be in range, Bel recites the words he knew would activate the spell. As he finishes saying the words, he splays his hands out in front of him, the thumbs touching. A cone of flame leaps from his hands, and covers the beast. (Damage 0) When the flames die down it is obvious that no damage has been done.

As Harp steps forward to attack the creature, it whips around with a claw and strikes Harp in the leg. (AOO, leaving a threatened square. AC19, 7+14=21, hit, damage 11) the claw strikes below the breast plate and opens skin and muscle on his leg. Limping a bit from the wound Harp swings his sword at the arm that just hit him. He connects with a solid blow (AC17, 9+12=21, hit, damage 1) He is surprised to see his sword bounce off the creature and do almost no damage.

Fal, seeing that his spell had done a little damage, decides to try it again. He chants the spell and points his fingers and two more glowing missiles fly from his fingers and strike the beast. (Magic Missile, Damage 1) Again only minimal damage is done by the spell.

Cai, infuriated that she missed with her last attack takes a wild swing and misses. (AC17, 3+10=13, miss) She howls in anger again.

Ran takes his time and finds an opening in the creature's defense. (AC17, 12+9=21, hit, damage 0) His sword bounces off the creatures back, doing no damage.

The creature takes a swipe at both Ran and Cai(Cai AC19, 3+14=17, miss. Ran AC20, 20+14=35, hit, critical threat, Critical roll, 10+14=24, hit, critical hit, Damage 21) While the creature misses Cai, its claw finds a gap in the chain armor and opens Ran's belly. Ran feels his insides start to let go and he has never felt pain like this before.

The creature continues on the follow through of its attack on Ran and turns to take a bite at Harp.(AC19, 3+15=18, miss) Harp is able to get his shield up and in the way of the slavering mouth, blocking the teeth from gouging his arm.

Salix, trying to think of a way to help his companions, calls upon his god's control of nature. Touching the symbol on his armor, a small flame appears in his hand and he throws this at the creature. (AC12, 10+6=16, hit, Damage 2) It hits the creature and seems to do a little damage.

Alatyr hears Ran cry in pain, strikes with his pick at the side of the beast.(AC17, 20+12=32, hit, critical threat, critical hit 6+12=18, hit, critical hit, damage 30) The creature howls as Alatyr forces his pick deep into its guts and twists it around.

OODM: I need actions for round 4.

Subject Correction

I made a small error in calculating Alatyr's damage. It should have been 25 not 30.

No sooner does Salix hurl the divinely produced flame but another appears in his

palm to take its place. This he also hurls at the creature.

Harp sees his sword bounce off the creatures arm, leaving a small scrape. He hears Rans yelp of pain, and sees Alatyr's pike plunge into the belly of the beast and final cause some hurt. Gritting in pain, he redoubles his effort since he knows a good strong stroke can harm the beast. After his swing, Harp will try to move toward where Ran is.

OOC: Mark, I would like to expand on what I sent. If I can use the withdraw order, get out of reach of the werewolf, and get to Ran's side, I will. I will try to avoid provoking another AOO (I don't like those). If I cannot do that, then I will stay where I am and keep swinging and worry about Ran's recently freed guts later.

Subject Fight round 4

There is no way to do that in one round.

However, you can use a 5 foot step each round. This will allow you to move and still attack. You might loose your flanking bonus, since there will be no one opposite you. Alatyr should still account for the flank bonus for Cai and Ran.

Seeing that flames do little to no damage, Bel decides to cast Acid Splash next round, and then if possible withdraw to where he left his bow.

Bel knows that the acid damage from a 0 level spell is even less than that from a burning hands.

Cai takes heart as the creature screams at Alatyr's blow. It may be beyond her power to harm this creature, but it can be done. With that, she begins to gather the spirit of the woodlands within her, and begs that they will aid in the conflict. (Summon Nature's Ally-Wolf)

ooc If the werewolf makes an aoo before my turn, I'll just cast it where I am. If not, I'll take a 5 foot step back to get out of his range before trying it. In my mind I'm summoning it opposite Harp, so it flanks him as he wanders towards Ran, and stops him from going after Fal in case he decides to do that for any reason.
