Ok here is the map.

Any one want to do anything?

From: Karl

Subject Map

Nope, waiting on Ran's lead.

From: Randy

Subject Strangers

Ran replies "I am Ran-Ell, and these are my companions," he gestures to the group.

"We are travelling home after a difficult journey and are scouting out a camp site. We see you have chosen a great spot to set your camp and were hoping to share a fire if you please. If not, we would be happy to continue further on our path and set our own camp later."

OOC: Ran is attempting to be diplomatic if you need to make any sort of check.

From: Josh

Subject Strangers

Same.

From: Mark

Subject Turn

Ok Kevin is due back tonight so I will wait until tomorrow to write a turn.

Any one else want to add anything before then or just wait and see how they respond to Ran's statements?

From: Karl

Subject Turn

Nothing from Salix. He's just standing quietly, regarding the strangers, looking carefully for anything that might give him a clue about who they are or what they are up to.

From: Jake

Subject Turn

Surin is too stunned by suddenly turning Scottish to do anything. He's waiting for his pants to turn into a kilt.

From: Mark

Subject Parley

Ran replies "I am Ran-Ell, and these are my companions," he gestures to the group.

"We are traveling home after a difficult journey and are scouting out a camp site. We see you have chosen a great spot to set your camp and were hoping to share a fire if you please. If not, we would be happy to continue further on our path and set our own camp later." The man in chain obviously struggles with the language. The man in plate next to him says something in their language and Kendrick's face brightens and he takes a few steps forward.

?You wish to make camp with us? Oh wonderful. We are on quest to find object of great worth for our employer but are lost. We feed you, mayhap you help us?? He looks back over his shoulder talking to his compatriots. He seems happy with what he has heard..(Sense Motive DC18, Bel 21, Cai 21, Fal 20, Harp 21, Kal 11, Ran 13, Salix 23, Surin 22) ?I think that maybe we should make camp and help these fellows.? Ran says and starts his horse forward. Salix hisses at him. ?Wait, there is something not quite right here? he whispers. Ran looks around at his party members. The two rangers are nodding their heads as are Harp, Surin and Fal. Kal looks at the others and says ?What is wrong with you? They pose no threat.? and spurs his horse forward a bit.

Kendrick and his companions, seeing what seems like agreement on the part of the party start forward a few steps as well.

OODM: What next? The sense motive result was amazing. Those who made the check do not think that Kendrick is lying per se, but he is not telling the whole truth.

New map attached.

From: Karl

Subject Parley

"Keep your ground, and stay alert!" Salix says quietly enough to not be heard outside the party, but firmly enough that they should know he means it. His hand goes reflexively to the symbol on his armor, now hidden by his cloak.

"Thank you, but we have food enough to maintain ourselves," Salix calls out to the man who spoke. "What is it you seek and how is it you think we may be of help to you?" (Diplomacy here, if it applies.)

Strangers get surprise and the start of round 1

From: Mark

Subject DM Magic

I wonder how many of you noticed the magical apperances of a couple of horses that had been left behind in the previous turn.

Ran and Fal did not urge their horses forward. They stepped forward themselves.

No one is on horses.

From: Kevin

Subject Strangers

Harp feels an odd sensation. This foreigner is speaking the "right" words, but something just does not feel right. Even with out the apparitions threat of another test, Harp would find it surprising to encounter another group right where a good camp site sits. One such occurance he could chalk up to fate, but two was down right odd. When Harp sees Ran and Kal start to move forward, he will try to think of some way to communicate to Ran that there is something "fishy" about these folks. He will also suggest that maybe they should go back and get their horses, giving them some time to talk amongst themselves.

From: Mark

Subject Harp

It is nice to see Harp back from his wanton debauchery in Key West. :)

From: Karl

Subject Harp

I *thought* I heard screaming coming from the South. ;-)

From: Kevin

Subject Harp

Funny thing was, it was PrideFest while we were down there. My mother in law had never been to Key West, and on her first trip, she caught some party beads thrown to her by an Elvis impersonator dressed in a pink jump suit. She believes that it will be very difficult to top that as far as unusually experiences go.

From: Mark

Subject Harp

Karl,

I did not know you were in Key West this past week end? ;)

From: Randy

Subject Strangers

Ran, taking heed of what Salix and Harp point out, replies "Let us go gather our horses. We have plenty of food for ourselves, but we will listen to your tale and help in what way we can."

With that, he turns and gestures for the companions to follow him back to the horses.

From: Karl

Subject Harp

I get around.

From: Karl

Subject Strangers

(OOC - is this pre-empting Salix's question to the group leader? Do we want to wait for his answer before returning for the horses?)

From: Randy

Subject Strangers

We will wait for the answer in order to appear polite.

From: Kevin

Subject Strangers

As the group turns to walk back to the horse, Harp decides that someone should keep an eye on these newcomers. As Ran and Salix pass him, he will offer to Ran "Sir, I will stay here and keep an eye on these folks. There is something "wrong" with these people, though I cannot put my finger on it. I will do nothing offensive. If I may, I would like to suggest that if Surin thinks he can make his way to one of the side of the clearing, it might worth our while. If they ask, we can tell them that he went to find some roots and spices for our dinner."

Harp will keep watch on the group down the way until the rest of the party returns with the horses.

OOC: Mark, the topography of the area is what? I thought you had written earlier that the other group was down in a shallow depression/valley/ low spot. Is that correct?

From: Mark

Subject Strangers

Yes.

However, your actions may be a bit early. I know what you want to do but wether you have time to do it is something else.

From: Kevin

Subject Strangers

OOC: I understand. At this point, all Harp knows is that the head of his group plans on saying that we are going to go back and get our horses. If we indeed are able to do that, I was giving my plan. If as we turn or do something else, these new folks take offense and begin an attack, then we will have to go to plan B.

So, in a normal strategic sense, we would have the high ground, for what little good it will do us.

From: Mark

Subject High ground

There is very little in D &D about how high ground affects combat. And it it not that high of ground. In small unit skirmishes, which is what most D&D combats are, elevation has very little to do with anything.

From: Kark

Subject High ground

Tell that to the witch in the Overlook campaign. ;-)

From: Mark

Subject High ground

Well flying is different. I am talking ground pounders here. Of course if you had a halfling half as tough as Melani, she would have wiped out this whole group before reporting back. :)

From: Karl

Subject Strangers

Yeah, yeah,

So what's their answer?????????

From: Mark

Subject Strangers

I am actually going to be working on it at lunch time. Which is in 23 minutes.

From: Mark

Subject Strangers, surprise and the start of round 1

There is confusion in the ranks. Noticing Ran and Kal taking some steps towards the strangers Salix whispers a little louder than he had intended "Keep your ground, and stay alert" He then turns to the strangers who are still advancing a little and yells ?"Thank you, but we have food enough to maintain ourselves," Salix calls out to the man who spoke."What is it you seek and how is it you think we may be of help to you?" (Diplomacy here, if it applies.)

The leader, still moving slowly towards the party says "I think you help us find where our prize is." They are now about 25 feet away from the party. Kendrick says something to his companions in their own language. Bel, Cai and Ran feel something strange in their minds, almost like a hammer blow that threatens to knock them out. Bel and Ran are able to shrug off the effect but Cai is not. (Will save DC9, Cai 8, Bel 18, Ran 17)

One of the men in the back races towards Cai. When the man is about 5 feet from Cai he jumps in the air and lashes out at Cai's head with his foot. His foot smashes into Cai's chin, snapping her head back.(AC 16, 22, hit, damage 3) The other man in the back row gestures at the party and a bolt of energy streaks from his outstretched hand and slams into Fal. (Damage 2)

End of surprise round

Round 1, Initiative (Stanger5, Ran, Bel, Stranger1, Stranger3, Harp, Kal, Stranger2, Stranger4, Rochelle, Surin, Salix, Cai, Fal) However Cai is dazed this round and can take no action.

The man standing next to Cai takes two quick punches. The first blow hits (AC16, 16, hit damage 4) but the second blow misses. (AC16, 9, miss)

OOD: Ok it is on. :) Let me know what you want to do.

From: Jake

Subject High ground

Surin pauses for a moment in his caber tossing to take umbrage at that remark.

From: Kevin

Subject Round 1

Harp, watching with dismay as those at the front of the party are attacked, lifts his skyward and asks for the help of the battlelord (Bless). He then aims his crossbow at 1) the opponent who fired the bolt of energy or 2) Kendrick (they guy in chain mail). He will then drop his crossbow and take a 5 foot step toward opponents, generally toward where Cai is (if allowed). If no one else has done so, he will also yell to Rochelle to move to the back of the group.

OOC: Mark, I am not sure who of the enemy I can shoot at with out risking hitting a fellow party member. My intent is the mage type first, chain mail second, and your choice of any of the plate guys or the monk type third.

Mark, can you give us a better descriptor of who is who on the other side - i.e. - plate armor is 1& 2, chain is #3, etc? As it is, we the players have no way of knowing if we would be able to attack a particular person without tripping over someone else.

From: Mark

Subject Round 1

I will make a new map tonight.

Stranger1 is in chain and that is Kendrick. Stranger2 and Stranger4 are in full plate. Stranger5 is the one attacking Cai. Stranger3 is the one that cast the spell.

From: Kevin

Subject Round 1

Thank you, that does make it a bit clearer.

From: Kevin

Subject Round 1

Did you have stranger 5 do their action for the first combat round already?

From: Karl

Subject Round 1 and Map

IS there a map for this?

From: Karl

Subject Round 1

In the interest of expediency, I'll explain what Salix wants to do. If you want me to clarify after the new map, I will:

Salix curses himself for not having seen that coming. His hand already on the holy symbol on his armored chest, he prays to Obad Hai for the blessing of the animated forest once again. (Entangle) He will try to center the effect to cover as many of the enemy as possible without hindering his own party.

From: Mark

Subject Round 1

You did see the initiative order right?

From: Karl

Subject Round 1

Hmmm. Well, can I say that this will be Salix intention unless the two groups are too integrated in melee by the time he can take his action, and if they are too integrated he will cast Heat Metal on the two in full plate, if they are close enough to each other (30 feet).

If I can't submit an "either or" type turn, just go with "Heat Metal".

From: Mark

Subject Round 1

He can do an either or. I will take it under advisement. :)

From: Ran

Subject Round 1

Ran, being very near to Cai, will draw his sword and attack the man who kicked her.

If it looks like anyone is going after Rochelle, Ran will call to Harp to protect her.

From: Derrell

Subject Round 1

Fal launches Magic Missile at the guy who attacked him.

From: Derrell

Subject Strangers

Fal is wary of the strangers. What if their employer is the person who paid for Rochelle's kidnapping, he thinks to himself.

From: Kevin

Subject Round 1 and hero worship

When Harp grows up, he wants to be like Salix. When his entangle spell will not suffice, he decides to make the two best armored guys into human sauna's. How great is that. All Harp can do is cast a puny bless spell and put a band aid on a couple of cuts. Worthless, I tell you, worthless.

From: Josh

Subject Round 1

Kal will follow Ran's lead. When Harp suggests he stay behind, Kal responds: "If you don't trust these people it would seem unwise to have only one of us stay behind. They could most likely overpower just one of us. I suggest that I stay behind with you, or that we both leave. I don't think we'd gain much with one person watching them."

From: Mark

Subject Round 1 map

Ok here is the updated map. It shows only the movement of Stranger5, who beat up on Cai some.

Others will move, including party members when I get their turn.

I still not heard from Jason, Rob or Jake. Jason is not really needed this turn since Cai is stunned.

Josh are you going to send in something for the first round of combat?

From: Josh

Subject Round 1

Kal draws his rapier, and tries to get back to protect Rochelle. If he has time he'll cast magic missle at someone.

OOC: I'll probably expand on this a bit when you send out the map.

Strangers attack

From: Josh

Subject Fight round 1

OOC: The map didn't change my turn. I'm just gonna drop back in front of Rochelle and shoot #5 with magic missle.

From: Kevin

Subject Fight round 1

OOC: Mark, since Ran's actions will happen before Harp's, I will adjust my turn as follows

IC: Harp, hearing Ran's shout to protect Rochelle, takes a short step (5 ft. step) and grabs Rochelle by the arm. "Get behind the tree over there. Keep it between yourself and the fight." With that, he pushes her toward the tree that is to his right. He will also move toward the tree (regular move action), keeping his body between her and the fight. Once in by the tree, he will pray to Heironious - "Oh powerful battle Lord, I again beseach thee, grant your blessings upon me and my companions as we battle these minions of our enemy". (Bless on group)

OOC: Mark am I OK on what I have proposed? I think I am, but you are the guru.

From: Mark

Subject Fight round 1

I will have to check but it looks ok to me.

I have an internet auction to run here in about 1/2 an hour and then I have to prepare for another two bids due tomorrow.

However both kids are gone tonight so I will be able to do a turn tonight.

From: Josh

Subject Fight round 1

Since Kal is acting after Harp he will just take stance next to Harp, protecting Rochelle. He'll then cast Magic Missle at #5.

From: Jake

Subject Fight round 1

OOC: Mark, is the "S" on the map Surin or Salix?

IC: Surin is startled for a moment by how quickly the situation had turned from uneasy parlay to bloodshed. Almost without thinking, he slips into the grass and brush and begins curving silently around the melee. His instinct is to protect his fallen comrade, but if there is anyone among their attackers who could avoid Surin's axe, it would be this one. Better to work his way toward a spot from which he can do more good, he thinks, and begins moving along the perimeter of the battle, arcing toward a point from which he can attack the spellcaster.

Round 1

From: Rob

Subject Round 1

Bel will fire two arrows at stranger #3 (who fired magic at Fal) this round, then withdraw his 5 foot step back.

From: Mark

I am working on it but I just got about 6 e-mails all wanting me to do things. I have to take care of those and then I can get back to it. I am doing Salix's turn now.

From: Mark

Subject Round 1 continued

Initiative (Stranger5, Ran, Bel, Stanger1, Stranger3, Harp, Kal, Stranger2, Stranger4, Rochelle, Surin, Salix, Cai, Fal)

Ran looks a bit amazed at how quickly the situation changed. One second he is trying to get some space between his friends and the strangers and the next they are being attacked. As he watches, one of the unarmored strangers runs at Cai and attacks her. Ran is not concerned, since he knows her to be a competent fighter, but he is surprised when she does almost nothing to defend herself. ?Harp, protect Rochelle? he shouts, quickly moving to help Cai, drawing his sword as he moves, and attacks the man(AC13, 10+6=16, hit, damage 6). His sword arcs around aiming for the neck. The man is able to dodge the worst of the blow, but still takes a long cut along his left forearm.

Bel watches the bolt of magical energy strike his friend Fal. ?Magic user? Bel thinks and decides to remove that threat. He lines up his shot trying to see past the man in plate that is between him and his target. His first shot is on the mark but his aim is thrown off on the second (AC13, 11+5=16, 1+5=6, hit, miss, damage 3). The arrow grazes the man but does no major damage. Bel then takes a step back. (5-foot step.)

The man in chain mail (Stranger1) grabs a small vial at his waist, pops the stopper and swallows the contents. He then moves towards Ran and ends up at his back, drawing his trident and sickle.

The man in the back (Stranger3) who had cast the spell grimaces at the pain from the wound caused by the arrow that Bel had shot at him. He is able to overcome it (Concentration check, DC15, 12+6=18, success). He makes a quick gesture and speaks a few words and a shimmering shield of force appears in front of him.

Hearing Ran's command, Harp takes a quick step forward and grabs Rochelle. ?Get behind that tree over there? he tells her and pushes her towards the small tree that is to their right. He guards her with his body as they move towards the slight protection of the tree. As he goes he chants the prayer of blessing from the battle god. All the party members feel the courage of the battle lord fill their senses and remove what small fears they had.

Kal, still not to trusting of Harp's intentions, backs up besides Rochelle and the ? orc. He chants the words he learned and a magical bolt of energy leaps from the tip of his rapier. However when it gets to the man that had attacked Cai (Stranger5) the bolt disappears (Spell resistance, DC7, 2+2=4, fail, spell failure).

The man in plate in front of Bel (Stranger2) charges at Bel, swinging his sword in a full overhand blow (AC18, 13+8=21, hit, damage 7). Bel tries to dodge out of the way but still gets a crushing blow to his shoulder, the fine chain shirt not parting but not stopping the energy of the blow.

The other man in plate (Stranger4) touches a small item to his Morningstar and chants a few words. A small glow surrounds the weapon. He then moves up and closes with Ran.

Rochelle stumbles as she is pushed towards the tree. She recovers her footing and moves under her own power to behind what little cover the tree can provide.

Surin is shocked at how fast things became violent. Almost on instinct he slips into the ground cover and starts to move around the battle.

Salix, steps back a bit at all the confusion, but one thing is clear, these strangers are intent on killing him and his friends. ?Metal armor? They attack us wearing metal armor? Idiots. Metal is part of the earth. They will learn their folly.? He touches the symbol on his armor and chants the prayer of earth and fire. He feels the heat flow from the earth and he guides it to the two men in plate. (Spell resistance check, DC7, 10+4=14, 11+4=15, both success.) Salix can feel the heat attempting to affect the armor of the man attacking Bel and it failing (Will save DC15, 18+1=19, save, no effect). He also feels the other man resist the effects of the prayer (Will save DC 15, 16+4=20, save, no effect).

Cai shakes her head and clears the cobwebs. Her jaw is soar and there is a man in front of her who looks like he wants to beat her to death.

Fal grunts at the pain (Concentration check, DC12, 11+1=12, success). Recognizing the spell (spellcraft DC11, 13+11=24, success) as a magic missile, Fal thinks to himself ?So that is what it feels like. Time to turn the tables.? (Spot check, 4+3=7, fail) He then chants the words that he had memorized and points his fingers at the spell caster in the back. The two missiles leap from his finger tips. He watches them fly towards the other man but flash a few inches before they hit him, doing no damage.

OODM: I will send out a map tonight.

From: Randy

Subject Round 2

Ran, seeing himself being surrounded, decides he will leave the unarmored man to Cai and will focus his efforts on the heavily armed opponents. He will attack the man with the trident and sickle and will try to avoid the morningstar of the man in plate (dodge if applicable).

From: Mark

Subject Round 2 and OrneryCon

As some of you know I am having OrneryCon on Saturday. Friday will be my prep day so it is very likely I will not get a turn done. IF every one has sent in a response to round 1 I might get one done tomorrow or early Saturday morning.

From: Jake

Subject Map

That makes sense. For some reason I was oblivious to the SA on the map.

From: Josh

Subject Round 2

Kal will cast Scorching Ray at #2. I'm not sure if he drew his rapier yet, but if hasn't, he'll do that this turn as well. (It's a free action because of quick draw)

From: Jake

Subject Round 2

Catching glimpses of the combat as he slips through the brush, Surin feels dismay at the skill displayed by the attackers. It lasts only a moment, however, before a sense of confidence fills him, catching in him like wind in a sail and propelling him forward. Bolts of arcane energy fizzle out before striking the mage that he is working his way toward, but with the newfound courage filling him he is not as concerned as he would otherwise be. "Immune to magic, eh?" he thinks. "We'll see how you do against cold steel, and if that don't work I've got a few other things I might try."

[OOC: Surin is continuing to work his way around to within striking distance of the mage. I have no idea how long it'll take him to get there, but his plan is to get within range and let loose with a throwing axe. If he sees other projectile weapons either bouncing harmlessly off of the mage or being deflected before they can strike, he'll see if it's possible to close with the mage and run him through with his rapier (he's got the weapon finesse feat, just to remind you, Mark).]

From: Mark

Subject Round 2

It will take a while. He only moves at 10 when sneaking.

From: Mark

Subject Round 2 amp

Here is the map as of the start of round 2.

Jake was right though, I forgot to put Salix on the last map. :(

Waiting on turns.

From: Karl

Subject Round 2

Salix will sacrifice "warp wood" for "summon nature's ally 2" and have the summoned creature/s attack the mage. However, I can't get to the D&D Docs so I don't know what can be summoned exactly and I'm out of town until Monday. I'm going to let Kevin decide what will be summoned.

Thanks Kevin ;-)

From: Jake

Subject Sneaking

No problem--I'd rather have him get there whole and undetected than perforated. Besides, this way he can take in the battle and determine the most effective attack to launch. And if everyone is slaughtered he can just sneak away. :)

From: Kevin

Subject Round 2

OOC: Karl, you are the best. I have an idea, but I want to check my manual first. I will respond shortly.

From: Kevin

Subject Round 2

Harp, seeing Ran surrounded by enemies, is torn. He has been commanded to protect Rochelle, but his leader, his friend, had enemies on all sides. What to do? He had used his own judgement before, and it had usually landed him on Work Detail. He knew that he should follow his orders, but he could not leave his friend to die. What should he do?

Making his decision,he drops his crossbow (free action) and draws his sword (free action). As he starts to move he yells to Kal to help Bel against the man in plate armor. Harp heads off at an angle behind Fal, telling Fal to drop back and help protect Rochelle. As Harp moves past Fal and to behind Salix, he yells to the druid " If Obad-Hai really wants to help, he could send you a hippogriff to surprise that mage". With that Harp will step around Salix and come up next to Kendrick. He will then take an attack at Kendrick (Stranger1, right?).

OOC: Mark, from my review of the map, Harp should be able to go 4 diagonal squares (if he hustles) and still get in a regular attack. He will head behind Fal and Salix, around the front of Salix and up to caddy corner to Kendrick.

Given Karl's desire to have Harp decide where Nature's ally will appear behind Stranger3 (were ever he is). It should get a full attack (2 claws and a beak), and I want them all on that magic user.

Karl, thanks for the opportunity. Buckbeak will turn the tide ( I hope). If you want to write up Salix's response to Harp's impetous request, be my guest, but Harp is thinking something large, fast, and with multiple attacks.

Drawing weapons

From: Kevin

Subject Drawing weapons

OOC: Mark, realized the drawing my sword is not a free action, but can be combined with my move action since I have a BAB of +1 or greater. Assuming that Ran does not move, Harp will move into Fal's square (accroding to movement rules, I can pass through squares occupied by friends with no penalty) then move 2 squares south and then diagonally to put Harp on the other side of Kendrick (this assumes that Kendrick does not move during his turn). If Kendrick moves, then Harp will move where he is able to flank one of the opponents. He will then attack that opponent.

His comments to Kal, Fal, and Salix will remain the same.

I am still waiting for something from Derrell, Rob and Jason.

Just to let you know, my grandma died on Friday. Kevin and I will be flying down Wednesday morning for the viewing that night and the funeral on Thursday. We will be back Thursday afternoon/evening. From: Randy

Sorry for your loss Mark. Take all the time you need before getting the game back on track.

From: Jason

Subject Turn

For some reason I got an error message trying to send this to the list earlier, so this time I'm sending it to the DM as well.

Cai watches unconcerned as one of the strangers approaches her rapidly, and bemusedly watches him strike her in the face. There is a slight pain, and concentrating on that sensation seems to help her free her mind of the cobwebs ensnaring it. Shaking her head slightly, she is dismayed to see that the strangers have closed with her friends and are displaying a high degree of skill.

Her first concern is with the man who struck her. She notes that Ran is surrounded on three sides by combatants. "So its 3 on 2 is it? We'll see about that!" she thinks. Taking a step back (presumably diagonal towards Salix, but mostly out of threatened areas) and drawing her sword, she calls to the woodland powers to aid her. (Summon Nature's Ally, Wolf, down and right from stranger 5 assuming he doesn't run off. If he moves somewhere else, put the wolf behind stranger 4 so he's flanked.)

Subject Round 2

Initiative(Stranger5, Ran, Bel, Stranger1, Stranger3, Harp, Kal, Stranger 2, Stranger4, Rochelle, Surin, Salix, Cai, Fal)

The stranger fighting Cai (Stanger5) again snaps a fist at her head but is distracted by all the activity around him. He misses by a wide margin. (AC16, 3+6=9, miss)

Ran realizes that he is almost surrounded. Hoping that Cai will be able to take care of herself, he turns his attention to the stranger in chain (Stranger1). He makes a cut at the man's chest (AC19, 12+7=19, hit) and is able to slip his longsword by the man's guard. The chain shirt turns most of the blade. (Damage 5).

Bel tries to back peddle a bit (5 foot step) in an effort to give him a little room in which to get a shot off at the man in plate in front of him. However his way is blocked by the tree behind him. He raises his bow to take a shot and the man swings his sword as Bel takes aim. (AOO using a ranged weapon in a threatened square) The sword slices across Bel's belly. (AC18, 17+6=23, hit, damage 6) His elfin chain stops most of the damage, but Bel winces at the pain.

Bel now takes his shots at point blank range. (AC21, 15+7=22, 5+7=12, hit, miss, Damage 8) Bel's first arrow finds a spot between two armored plates and sinks in to the feathers. The second arrow bounces off the chest plate and shatters.

Stanger1 twirls his two weapons in a blurring circle. Ran finds himself having a bit of trouble keeping his eye on the weapons as well as the two other foes around him. Ran makes a quick glance behind him and the Stranger makes his move. He jabs with his trident and when Ran moves his shield to try and intercept he slashes with the sickle. (AC20, 19+10=29, 12+10=22, hit, hit, Damage 6+9=15) Ran is able to catch the trident on his shield and his arm is stunned by the force of the blow. He is caught off guard by the slash of the sickle and it opens a nasty cut along his forearm, the curved blade reaching over the top of the shield.

Stranger3 again makes the gestures and says the words that can not be remembered when they are heard and another bolt of energy leaps from his finger tips and slams into Fal's chest. (Damage 4)

Harp watches as Ran deflects Kendrick's trident but is cut by the sickle. Ran has commanded him to protect Rochelle but Ran is surrounded by three enemies. He can not let Ran be killed. What would the Captain say? Dropping his crossbow, he pushes his way between Kal and Fal. ?Fal, drop back and help protect Rochelle, Kal help Bel. I?ll help Ran.? As he moves he draws his longsword. As he passes Salix he whispers to him ?If Obad-Hai really wants to help, he could send a hippogriff or something to surprise that mage.? Harp tries to get into a flanking position on Kendrick but realizes that he can not get into position in time to get an attack on Kendrick. Deciding that it is better to get in any attack, Harp moves in front of Salix and swings his sword at Kendrick's side.(AC19, 16+10=26, hit, damage 10) Harp's sword slices across the chain armor and several of the links part from the power of the swing, the flesh beneath separating.

Kal responds to heat of battle and Harp's command voice almost with out thinking about it. He takes a quick step to the left and forward to get a better shot at the man attacking Bel (5 foot step). He then chants the words he learned and focuses on his rapier, the power channeling through the enchanted weapon. (Spell failure check, 86, success) Kal feels an odd sensation as the fire leaps from his rapier. There is something opposing his will. (Magic Resistance DC7, 9+2=11, success) He clamps down and the force penetrates the resistance and the fire engulfs the man in plate. (AC11, 16+4=20, hit, damage 12)

Stranger2, flames still flickering on his armor, takes a step away from Bel, reaches to his belt and pulls up a small vial to his mouth. He pulls the stopper with his teeth and swallows the contents. The burns on his face scab over and heal as Bel and Kal watch.

Stranger4 swings his morning star at Ran, but the ? elf is able to dodge the clumsy blow easily. (AC20, 2+5=7, miss)

Rochelle moves herself further behind the tree, while Surin continues his slow, stealthy movement towards the magic user in the back.

Salix sees that all of the enemies are occupied except for the magic user in the back. ?Let's see what kind of company we can find for him? Salix thinks to himself. Touching the symbol on his armor, he starts to chant the prayer that will summon an ally of nature itself. (Full round action, creature will appear next round)

Cai decides to call on help from nature. She takes a step back towards Salix, drawing her sword as she does. She also pulls out her symbol of nature and starts to chant the summoning prayer as well. (Full round action, creature will appear next round)

Fal, his chest still hurting from the bolt of force that has just hit him, stumbles back towards where Rochelle is hiding.

OODM: Next round, assuming nothing interrupts their casting, Salix and Cai will both summons creatures just before their action, so they will be able to do something on their action. However, it the spells are disrupted then the creatures will not show up.

Actions for round 3. Map will follow tonight.

Subject Round 3

Ran will continue to focus his attacks and concentration on the man with the trident and sickle. He will ignore the man with the morningstar for this round, hoping not to take another blow from the sickle.

Subject Round 3

Is there anyone else near Rochelle besides Kal?

From: Mark

Subject Round 3

Who do you want to apply your dodge point to.

From: Mark

Subject Round 3

Actually Kal is not all that near Rochelle. Fal is near her.

From: Josh

Subject Round 3

I thought Harp and Kal were standing near her in the first round?

Either way, if Fal is near her, Kal'll step forward and attack #5, the same guy he fried with the scorching ray.

From: Mark

Subject Round 3

Here is the map at the start of the round.

Rochelle was behind and the the left of Harp. Harp was behind Kal. Harp pushed through Kal and Fal, by Salix and just above #1.

Kal fried #2, the guy attacking Bel. Kal had taken a 5 foot step diagonally so that he is next to Salix at the moment. He can take a 5 foot step next turn and try and skewer #2.

The map I send out tonight should help.

Subject Round 3

Harp, seeing Ran focus on Kendrick, takes a small step to get on the other side of Kendrick, then attacks Kendrick again.

OOC: Mark, 5 ft. step to flank Kendrick if he has not moved. If he has, then after my AOO, I will move to where I can flank him again, if possible.

Mark, when #2 stepped back and took a swig, would that not create an AOO? If it was a withdraw, then it was a full round action and he could not use the vial. If it was a 5 ft. step, then the action would create an AOO? Right?

From: Mark

Subject Round 3

5 foot steps do not provoke AOO.

From the rules:

You can move 5 feet in any round when you don't perform any other kind of movement. Taking this 5-foot step never provokes an attack of opportunity. You can't take more than one 5-foot step in a round, and you can't take a 5-foot step in the same round when you move any distance.

You can take a 5-foot step before, during, or after your other actions in the round.

Talk to your 11 year old about the rules before you question me again. :)

Bel steps back and fires two more arrows at the closest person to him. He tries to move between Fal and Kal, diagonally.

Subject Round 3

Immediately after the ray of flame errupts from Kal's blade, he runs forward, chasing the tail of the flame and engages the second stranger. As the flame consumes itself, Kal is on his opponent in a flury of attacks.

His blade is invisible but for the sphere of flashing light it creates as it dances around his body. He parries and attacks with the same stroke, never relying on brute strength to drive his attack through.

Each practiced swing flows from his feet and through his body, propelling his hand, which guides the blade. His blade acts only an edge on the sword that is his body. Testing his opponents defenses with each attack, he waits until there is an opening and then deftly drives his entire being through that breach, commiting himself entirely to his dance.
