Harp and Allistair get drunk, Kal opens up

It looks like Allistair is buying another round for Salix and Harp. If the bartender had anything harder, he'll order a round of that too.

Allistair looks into his purse as he buys another round. "Might as well use some coin now. Who knows when we'll be able to relax and spend it freely again." He pauses as he empties his mug. "So... this Elf, Kal. I'll admit he didn't necessarily make the best first impression, but he's not always like that, is he? I mean, from what I hear he helped out a lot when you were attacked by those extraplanar mercenaries. Is there something from his past, perhaps he had a really bad experience with some orcs or something when he was younger? Has he ever talked about his past?"

"He hasn't said much about himself," Salix replies. "We met because of the lycanthrope incident we told you about. From that, I suppose we can surmise that he can be dedicated to a cause when he chooses to be. However, from the beginning he has baited Harp, here, and made many rude and pointed remarks. To Harp's credit, he has suffered them all with no violence of any kind. However, this also seems a bit unfair seeing as had the Elf made those same remarks to anyone else in the group there would likely have been bloodshed.

"I thought at first his feelings might have been from prior experience. I, myself, was wary of Harp at first, not knowing any Half-Orcs before him, and having too much experience with full-blood Orcs. But there is no excuse for the verbal attacks and agressive baiting he has shown since then. It's almost as if he has some personal vendetta against Harp, though I don't know what that could be."

Salix, not prone to drunkeness, has noticeably slowed in his drinking, but makes no comment about Harp or Allistair if they choose to tie one on.

This will be my last post until I find an internet cafe down in Tybee Island.

"Damn it Salix" Harp curses. " I understood his caution when we first met. Hell, I am used to that. But after we killed that other beast of a 1/2 orc, you would have thought I had done enough prove myself to him. But nooooo.... Then we get attacked by those five things from who knows where. While he is whirling and twirling around fighting just one of them, I'm off gutting two of them, helping Ran and Cai keep from dying. But that is still not enough. What does he want from me?" With that, Harp slams his tankard on the table, breaking it. With a sorrowful look at the beer running over the table, Harp starts to laugh.

"What is the old saying, Salix, no used crying over spilt milk? Well, I think I can come up with a new one - not worth crying over spilt beer. And that is what Kal is - not worth crying over. Barkeep, a rag and another tankard."

With that, Harp will complete a long and established tradition of getting very drunk to celebrate his promotion

Salix pats Harp on one massive shoulder in agreement. Not worth it, indeed.

He watches Harp and Allistair. The more they get drunk, the less Salix wants to drink, keeping his wits about himself so as to help keep the other two out of trouble. Being used to mostly keeping to himself and having no one to rely on other than himself, Salix is not prone to drink heavily or otherwise let his guard down. It looks like this habit will serve him well again tonight.

Salix will eventually help Harp back to the Chapter House, either to his quarters, if he can do that without arousing too much interest, or to a quiet spot in the garden.

OOC--I got it. I'm just now getting a chance to reply though.

IC:Surin laughs, sounding genuinely amused, and begins paring his nails with a dagger that seems to have sprouted from his hand. "There's them as would say that it's because your an ass. I don't know that that's so, but I can't say as I'm entirely sure that it ain't. I *can* say that that's how you're looking though."

He blows on his nails, sending a puff of shavings into the air.

"I reckon you're bright enough to know that, and if your swordplay is any sign you ain't lacking in discipline, so I doubt as how you're just spouting off, all out of control and the like. So," he says, cocking his head to one side and examining his newly trimmed nails, "what's the story?"

Kal stops training. He motions to the chain shirt and says "This thing is too heavy, I can't move in it."

Kal takes off the chain shirt, wraps it up neatly, and takes back out the studded leather. He checks it over, looking for loose straps or broken joints. When he is satisfied he takes an oiled cloth to it and starts working the leather. After about a minute of silence, Kal looks at Surin, and says simply:

"I don't know."

Surin notices Kal is no longer smirking. His face has softened in the last few minutes, making him apear much more elven. All the sharp lines in his face are gone, giving it a sort of sad quality.

OOC: Mark, I updated my sheet with the same studded leather armor. If I wore the chain I'd be trading an attack point for an AC point and some extra weight. Not really worth it.
